Vinita Daily Journal, Wednesday, September 1, 1999- -- Alfred Aaron Woolman, 87, a native of Vinita and a retired employee of the Vinita Water Department, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999 at his daughter's residence in Adair following an extended illness. Mr. Woolman was born in Vinita on Nov. 20,1911, the son of Jess and Pearl (Cooley) Woolman. He received his formal education in rural Craig County school. He worked as a farmer and in the coal mines before moving to Colorado in 1930. He and Julia Babe Anselme were united in marriage on Feb. 15,1938, in Marshall, Colorado, and made their home in Boulder, CO. They moved back to Vinita in 1965 and Mr. Woolman worked for the Vinita Water Department until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Vinita First Church of God. He loved to play the fiddle. Mr. Woolman is survived by:" his wife of 61 years," Julia; ten children,Rev. Alfred A. Woolman, Jr. of Palisade, CO., Carol Jay of Elizabeth, CO, Donald Lee Woolman of Jay, OK, Barbara Jean Kay of Houston, TX, Alice Faye Lucas of Adair, OK, Phyllis Ann Wiedower of Tulsa, OK, Deborah Darlene Shelby of Afton, OK, Juanita Marie Sasser of Vinita, OK, Edward Douglas Woolman of Brighton, CO, and Melody Kay Benton of Vinita,OK; a brother Melvin Woolman, Of Vinita,Ok; a sister Ophelia Amanda Collins of Boulder, CO; 46 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin,Everett, and Roscoe Woolman; two sisters, Viola Schrader and Leona Jenkins two grandsons and a granddaughter. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the sanctuary of the Vinita First Church of God with the Rev. Eddie Wrinkle officiating. Burial will be on the family plot of the Pheasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, OK.. |
